Something is unearthed that should have stayed buried…

When a retired schoolteacher visits the remote island of Fetlar, in the Shetland Islands, she becomes obsessed with the mystery of a local man who went missing in 1965. While the island is plagued with strange events, she uncovers more than she bargained for. What is the true meaning of The AdderStane Prophecy? Who are The Papar, and why are they linked to Fetlar?

In 2014, me and my husband conducted an aerial survey of the island of Fetlar using a drone and a camera suspended from a kite. We experienced a number of so-called ‘coincidences’ when researching the name:

Papil (Papil Water)

We were hooked! Our research led us to the Papar; these were rumoured to be priests and monks who travelled to Shetland and Orkney; even as far as Ireland, Norway and Iceland. There are many place-names that bear the name Papil (and its variables), in Shetland, Orkney and further afield.

It was the Papil Stone (see the front cover of the AdderStane) discovered in Burra, Shetland Islands that caught our attention; this sparked off the idea for The AdderStane.

The AdderStane is a supernatural, metaphysical tale with many twists and turns. Why is the number 237 so important? Will the children ever be safe again?

Filled to the brim with real history and folklore, it will leave you wondering if you are reading fantasy or reality – the book itself has its own part to play in the mystery.

Are you ready for a ride?  Hold onto your hat!
